Guidalberto is the second wine of Tenuta San Guido behind Sassicaia . However, most would agree this is very much a ‘standalone’ wine and compares very favourably with most Super Tuscans without using the family connection (which I have just done!). It is a 60/40 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, a very Bordeaux-esque character with blackcurrant flavours together with black cherries and balsamic notes. The palate is ripe and full bodied with a graphite minerality and long finish and while it is approachable now, with the aid of a decanter, you will see the best of this wine in 3 or 4 years time when it will have totally softened.
